Finance Officer/Treasurer – Remap

REMAP is the UK’s only charity providing custom-made equipment, free of charge for people with disabilities.

Every year they help an average of 3,500 people with a disability, thanks in no small part to their network of 65 volunteer-run branches, and their charity is governed by a Board of Trustees.

OUTLINE:

  • Approximately 1-2 hours per week.
  • Mostly home based.
  • Occasional attendance at meetings held in Brighton.
  • Requires access to PC and Microsoft Excel and Word.

REMAP has over sixty-five branches across the UK, helping people with a disability to live more independently. The Brighton and Sussex branch is seeking to recruit a new Finance Officer/Treasurer volunteer following the impending resignation of the current Treasurer. Thanks to the quality of her work there are robust systems to inherit. The branch has a secure management team in place and a strong group of active engineers with a good record of meeting the needs of the disabled community across a wide geographical area.

WHAT THE ROLE INVOLVES:

  • Paying volunteer expenses in accordance with the bank mandate, ensuring that they have been authorised in accordance with REMAP procedures.
  • Notifying the management team of any donations received.
  • Banking any donations received by cash or cheque.
  • Maintaining a cashbook detailing all bank transactions and analysing as appropriate.
  • Preparing income and expenditure accounts for the management team.
  • Preparing year end returns for Central Office by the date advised.
  • Maintaining records required for year-end gift aid return.
  • Sending gift aid declaration and information to new volunteers.
  • Completing grant applications and funding bids.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE:

Essential:

  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office, the Internet and email.
  • Experience in bookkeeping, budgeting, and planning income and expenditure.
  • Ability to apply disability, equality, and inclusion practices.
  • Ability to keep members’ and clients’ personal data secure and safe.

Desirable:

  • Commitment to our values.
  • Willingness to develop necessary skills and experience.
  • Ability to explain financial information to other group members.
  • Willingness to keep up to date with external and internal policies and procedures.

Support is available to help develop the skills for this role, including induction into all the outlined areas.
