Fund Raiser – Sussex Trug Heritage Centre Limited

A not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. The company has been set up to preserve the Sussex Trug Industry from extinction. The Heritage Crafts Association list Trug Making as “critically endangered” in their Red List of endangered heritage crafts.

Trug making has been carried out in the Herstmonceux area of Sussex for over 190 years, with Thomas Smith forming the first known company in 1829. The centre has been set up to preserve the Trug Industry and to train new participants by means of apprenticeship and traineeships over the next few years in an endeavour to re-populate the industry and to make our craft more accessible to others.

This voluntary position is to raise funding for the establishment and running of the centre by means of identifying suitable donors and by accessing funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund. Once suitable donors have been identified, the fund raiser will contact them with our proposal for funding opportunity.

You will be mostly volunteering from home for this role, with occasional visits to the Trug Shop in Magham Down, Herstmonceux, if necessary. There is no age limit although people with some fund raising or financial background would be perfect. However, it is possible to work in the Trug Shop if preferred.
