Chief Steward and two Lead Stewards – Heathfield Agricultural Show
About this organisation
A one-day agricultural Show based in the heart of the Wealden countryside held annually in May. It showcases livestock and equine competitions and events, traditional countryside methods and crafts, arts and crafts, a flower exhibit, farmers market traders, vintage tractors and steam engines, as well as a packed showground of relevant traders at Tottingworth Farm in Broad Oak.
About this opportunity
We are looking for a Chief Steward and two Lead Stewards to recruit and manage the many volunteer stewards who help us on Show Day, approximately 140 people.
Stewards are essential for the success of the Show. They help to ensure the safety and security of all our visitors and keep things running smoothly.
We are now in search of motivated people with great organisational skills to take the Chief Steward role, a lead Steward to organise the volunteers from local groups and organisations and another Lead Steward to organise the ground volunteers.
The Chief Steward will develop a plan and time shift schedule for the day. Working with our Ground committee, the Chief Steward will allocate volunteers to areas and advise them of their timed shift duties for the day. Shifts are usually 3 to 4 hours and then the rest of the day will be free to enjoy the Show.
Guided and supported by the Show Grounds Chair and the Show Coordinator, a commitment to administration work to recruit volunteer stewards will be required. Communication skills and a working knowledge and understanding of spreadsheets will be essential.
On Show Day Stewards will be standing for long periods and be busy moving around the showground so, you will need an impressive physical stamina to undertake these roles.
Help will also be required on the showground during the week before the Show, for set up.
This role is an immediate start. Volunteered hours will be self managed with an increase in April and May in the run-up to the Show and all day 6.30am – 7pm on Show Day, 24 May 2025
