Surgery Car Service – call handler
We are looking for someone who is happy to handle phone calls from people who need a lift to their local GP surgery.
The vacancy is to cover Fridays 9.30am to 4pm and involves marrying up the request with one of our volunteer drivers (if Fridays are not possible then it may be possible to swap for another day in the week).
Calls will be automatically directed to your home phone, mobile phone or voicemail. You are not expected to be at home all day. Normally there are no more than four or five calls each Friday. The other weekdays are covered by four other volunteers.
This is a very rewarding service as our callers are always very grateful as often they have no other means of getting to their appointments.
A DBS check is required but this will be handled by the Association without any cost to the volunteer. There is no age limit for this role, all we ask is for our volunteers be patient with our callers, who sometimes can be a little confused, have a good telephone manner and sometimes a sense of humour! The cost of calls made can be recovered.
