Primary School Governor – Harlands Community Primary & Nursery School

About this organisation

Harlands Community Primary & Nursery School was built in 1996 in Ridgewood, Uckfield, and is responsible for educating children from the ages of 2 to 11 in the local area.

About this opportunity

Our school governing board is made up of Governors from all walks of life with a range of different backgrounds, skills and experiences, but they are all volunteers who work together for the benefit of the school community.

Do you have good business skills? Do you have knowledge of HR, Health and Safety, IT development, building projects, governance, chairing meetings, or managing premises?

You will need an open and enquiring mind; an ability to look at issues objectively and a willingness to listen and make informed judgements.

A Governor role is a rewarding and effective way of making a voluntary contribution to the lives of local young people.

All Governors are required to complete safeguarding training within 12 months of appointment. This training takes 1.5 hours to complete and is provided as an online course.

It is recommended, and expected, that all governors new to the role complete an induction course which is provided by East Sussex County Council and takes 2 hours to complete.

All Governors at Harlands commit to completing at least one training course per year, there are a variety on offer covering aspects such as safeguarding, finance, complaints, pupil premium and understanding data.

The Governing Board hold 5 full Governing Body Meetings each year and 2 focus group meetings. These meetings are held on Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm and generally last for 1.5-2 hours. Governors are expected to have read the board papers; issued 7 days before the meetings.

Governors undertake monitoring visits – usually 3 per year during the school day, by arrangement.

If you are interested, please follow the link below to fill out a form, and we can arrange a tour of the school and meeting with the chair of governors and headteacher.
