Sussex Support Services
Everyone needs somewhere they can relax, where they can speak to their peers or engage in a communal activity. A space where you can feel secure, which is even more true when dealing with physical or mental health conditions.
At Victoria Pavilion, Sussex Support Services provide a welcoming atmosphere to people with conditions such as Parkinson’s or Dementia, and offer carers a little invaluable time to themselves.
Their last newsletter boasted activities like arts and crafts, cooking and baking, reminiscing, cognitive stimulation therapy, gardening projects, musical activities and entertainers, outings and special events, exercise, and cinema. These are all supervised by their expert staff to ensure that everyone enjoys themselves in a safe environment.
So there’s no lack of variety of what’s on offer at any one time. Currently they operate three times a week, on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Just as with any role, taking a break is important. Carers quite often go unnoticed, performing a vitally important service (to a family member in a lot of cases), and find it difficult to take time off for themselves. This is exactly why the service offered at Victoria Pavilion is so useful, knowing that your loved one or person in your care will be given the attention they require, whilst experiencing activities they might not have been able to, and crucially giving their carer some precious time.
