Marketing Volunteer – Sussex Trug Heritage Centre Limited

A not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. The company has been set up to preserve the Sussex Trug Industry from extinction. The Heritage Crafts Association list Trug Making as “critically endangered” in their Red List of endangered heritage crafts.

Trug making has been carried out in the Herstmonceux area of Sussex for over 190 years, with Thomas Smith forming the first known company in 1829. The centre has been set up to preserve the Trug Industry and to train new participants by means of apprenticeship and traineeships over the next few years in an endeavour to re-populate the industry and to make our craft more accessible to others.

This role primarily utilises social media to inform the wider world of their craft and products and to ensure that all available media channels are used. The Marketing Volunteer will prepare blogs and other marketing information and use the company’s Instagram and Facebook pages to spread the word about the activities of the centre. They’ll develop other social media outlets for coverage around the world.

The volunteer will need to do this at the Thomas Smith’s Trug Shop in Magham Down using the company’s computers and resources. They ask for a commitment of one half day a week, but if you are able and willing then more days are welcome.
