Business Development Director – Bluebell Railway

The Bluebell Railway is one of the UK’s leading heritage railways, operating steam and diesel trains between Sheffield Park, Horsted Keynes, Kingscote and East Grinstead. Run by over 1,000 volunteers, we work together to operate the railway, preserve historic locomotives, carriages and buildings, and provide memorable experiences for our visitors. Whether you have existing skills or simply want to learn something new, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Help shape the future of the Bluebell Railway by leading our approach to business development and commercial opportunities. Working with senior volunteers and the wider organisation, you’ll identify opportunities to generate income, develop partnerships and strengthen the railway’s long-term sustainability. This is an ongoing volunteer role for someone with senior commercial, business development or partnership experience who wants to use their skills to make a real difference to a unique heritage organisation.

This is a flexible role with meetings and activities arranged around the needs of the organisation and your availability. Much of the work can be undertaken remotely, with occasional meetings and visits to the railway as required.

Applicants for this position must be aged 18 or over. Senior-level experience in business development, commercial management, partnerships or a related field is desirable. Volunteers have access to a range of Bluebell Railway volunteer benefits.
