Museum Steward – Bluebell Railway

The Bluebell Railway is one of the UK’s leading heritage railways, operating steam and diesel trains between Sheffield Park, Horsted Keynes, Kingscote and East Grinstead. Run by over 1,000 volunteers, we work together to operate the railway, preserve historic locomotives, carriages and buildings, and provide memorable experiences for our visitors. Whether you have existing skills or simply want to learn something new, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Help bring the Bluebell Railway’s history to life as a Museum Steward. Working as part of a friendly volunteer team, you’ll welcome visitors, answer questions, help people explore the exhibits and share stories about the railway and its heritage. This is an ongoing volunteer role, ideal for anyone who enjoys meeting people, history and being part of the visitor experience.

Museum Stewards volunteer on days when the museum is open, with opportunities available at different times throughout the year. Volunteers can choose which days they would like to volunteer, making the role flexible and easy to fit around existing commitments. A general volunteer days is from 10:00 – 16:30 however flexible times are available.

This role is open to applicants aged 16 or over. An interest in railway history and good communication skills are helpful, but training will be provided. Volunteers have access to a range of Bluebell Railway volunteer benefits.
