Lineside Clearance Team – Bluebell Railway

The Bluebell Railway is one of the UK’s leading heritage railways, operating steam and diesel trains between Sheffield Park, Horsted Keynes, Kingscote and East Grinstead. Run by over 1,000 volunteers, we work together to operate the railway, preserve historic locomotives, carriages and buildings, and provide memorable experiences for our visitors. Whether you have existing skills or simply want to learn something new, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Help keep the Bluebell Railway’s lineside safe, tidy and well maintained as part of a friendly volunteer team. This is an ongoing volunteer role involving practical outdoor work such as cutting back vegetation, clearing overgrowth and keeping the areas alongside the railway under control. In simple terms, it’s a bit like industrial gardening — but with a railway running alongside you!

This role takes place during the day on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, with different teams looking after different sections of the railway. Teams generally meet in the morning and continue through into the early afternoon.

Applicants will need to be aged 16 or over, and comfortable performing physical tasks outdoors. Any volunteers will have access to a range of Bluebell Railway benefits.
