The school summer holidays are upon us, and as the continued opening up of attractions and businesses around the country offers a welcome plethora of choice for how to stay entertained over the coming weeks, Wealden District Council have unveiled their new website making finding that local day out impressively easy. Replete with stunning photography that does justice to our countryside, the website lists so much to see and do, that should you wish, there’s no need to travel far from home. Nature reserves, woodlands and forests, down to the coast, vineyards, museums and steam railways, zoos and farms, the science centre, walking and cycling routes all to name just a handful, and of course the history found in the likes of our castles.

Last week our Chairman Paul Sparks spoke to Uckfield FM about our organisation, and was delighted to draw attention to our upcoming Volunteer Awards in September. The awards are our own way of saying a huge thankyou to those who have been selflessly giving their time and energy to help those in need, as nominated by you. If someone has been going above and beyond, providing a much-needed service, or something as simple yet vital as being a companion for someone who otherwise would have found themselves on their own this past year, please don’t hesitate to nominate them! We’ll be recognising various categories to shine a light on some of the different areas of volunteering. Service to our Community Award Good Neighbour Award Young Volunteer Award (for under 25’s only) Happiest Volunteer Award Volunteer of the Year Award (this is open to our member organisations only)
