Model Makers – Civil Aviation Trust

We are a small civil aviation-themed Charity temporarily based at Saxon Nursery, Hankham. We are building a museum to show the history of civil aviation from the 1920’s to today.
Our current projects are transforming the cockpit section of a Jetstream 41 into a flight simulator, and working on our Rolls Royce Dart turbo prop engine from a Herald aircraft.

Do you have experience constructing model kits? This can be with plastic model kits, scratch-building, or general woodworking experience. Would you like to put those skills towards a goal?

As part of creating our museum experience, we are seeking model maker volunteers to help construct an array of aviation models to go on display. This is a relaxed position where you’ll be guided through the process of what we’re looking to build, before using your own initiative to work on an item.

There will be others around, so while working on your own kit you won’t be on your own, allowing volunteers to share their skills and experience with each other. Given the tools used and nature of the role, common sense is essential, and the location we are based means having a driving license is preferable. This role is only open to ages 18 or over.

This is a great opportunity for any hobbyists experienced at building kits, using tools, and/or working with raw materials, to create items which will be on display to the public, and hopefully help to inspire more people and maybe the next generation to learn about our history of aviation.
