Scrapstore Volunteer – Artytime

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help us open the store for a couple of hours a week to sort through the donated items for display, and meet and greet members, helping them find the items they are looking for. A full induction will be given for any volunteers. We prefer two volunteers are on duty per session so you can bring a friend, or be placed with an existing volunteer. There is no upper age limit for this role, however please be aware that this position may involve some heavy lifting, as occasionally donated boxes of items may contain heavy materials, however this is not often the case. Currently we have vacancies on a Monday from 3.30pm - 5.30pm and Tuesday 9.30 - 11-30am. We want to open the scrapstore more often so whatever day of the week or weekend suits you we can probably accommodate. We are looking for someone who can make a regular 2 hour a week commitment.

Volunteer Minibus Driver – Chailey Heritage Foundation

As one of our dedicated drivers, you’ll play a vital role in helping children and young people access exciting experiences, build confidence, and enjoy greater independence. Purpose of the Role To make a real difference in the lives of children and young people by driving them to places where they can learn, explore, and have fun. What You’ll Do Carry out simple vehicle safety checks to make sure the minibus is safe and ready for the journey. Keep the vehicle clean, tidy, and welcoming for everyone on board. Complete a quick log after each trip and let the team know if anything needs attention. Lend a helping hand when children and young people are getting on and off the bus — including safely securing wheelchairs.

Treasurer – Christmas Day Community Lunch

The Community Christmas Day Lunch are looking for a Treasurer to join their committee, to help organise and prepare for this one day a year event to ensure it goes well. The committee first meet in January to discuss the previous event, before setting plans for the one to follow. Preparation for the event won’t begin until late in the summer, where tasks will be established and publicity commence. Early December is then monitoring progress and finalising tasks. The Treasurer is responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions are recorded, and the accounts are up to date. The committee as a whole will plan the event, source funding, input creative ideas, find entertainment, and create publicity. You will also need to keep the chairman and rest of the committee informed of the state of finances, and sign off on any transactions. We ask that all committee members try to be a part of the day itself, helping to ensure that it goes as intended and provides a wonderful experience for our guests. This role is perfect for anyone who is a retired accountant or bookkeeper, anyone currently working in the profession looking to help out in the community, or someone with relevant qualifications seeking more experience. Should you require additional information we can arrange an informal meeting to discuss any questions you might have. This role won’t be a large time commitment, as whilst parts of the role take place throughout the year which you will need to be available for, the charity are there to provide an event for one day. This event can make a big impact upon members of our community who might otherwise struggle during the festive season, and your efforts will go a long way to making that happen.

Treasurer – Ashdown Scouts

We are looking for a Treasurer to maintain the accounts for the District. This is a role which means you will responsible for all aspects of financial transactions, making sure to keep a proper record and all accounts up to date, as well as keeping the trustees informed. As a Treasurer you will also become a part of the board of trustees. This position will only require around 1-2 hours per week of your time as and when needed, and be performed remotely, so you can set your own hours to suit. There may be periods in the year where how much time is needed fluctuates such as towards the end of the fiscal year. A DBS check will be required, however Ashdown Scouts will organise this. This role is ideal for a retired accountant or bookkeeper looking to utilise their skills to benefit the community, or someone with relevant qualifications looking to gain some experience.

Volunteer Adviser – Wealden Citizens Advice

Our team of more than 60 volunteers and 16 paid staff across our 3 offices in Crowborough, Hailsham and Uckfield assisted more than 3,300 clients in 2023/24 with over 17,600 issues. Our volunteers explore the client's issue with them, research the topic and provide them with information to move forward. We are very much in need of additional volunteer advisers. We ask volunteers to come 1 day a week between the hours of 9am - 3pm, no previous experience is necessary and full training is given. This is a rewarding role where advisers will answer the phone, use a computer to research the client’s issue and help them resolve their problems. Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
