Road Closure Marshall – Uckfield Bonfire and Carnival Society

About this organisation
The origins of the Uckfield Bonfire & Carnival Society go back to 1827 when shop traders organised a Carnival on a Wednesday afternoon. Now, Uckfield Bonfire Society kick-start the Sussex Bonfire Season annually, and is a key date in any Sussex diary.
As a non-profit organisation, we fund raise to allow us to put on next year’s event and any money raised that is left over is donated to local charities. In previous years this has amounted to several thousand pounds being donated.
About this opportunity
One of the most vibrant and culturally significant dates in the Uckfield Calendar, the Uckfield Bonfire and Carnival Society are looking for friendly volunteers to Marshall, helping to make the evening safe and enjoyable for all attendees.
There are plenty of spaces for volunteers, as all the roads along the route will need to be closed for the evening, so if you’re looking to volunteer somewhere with a family member or friend then this could be the perfect occasion.
All volunteers must be aged 18 years or older, and you will need to be comfortable standing for at least a few hours, as well as communicating with members of the public to explain the road closures and for how long they will be closed along with any diversions.
A one off event such as this is a brilliant way to help out without committing too much of your free time, just one evening assisting with one of Uckfield’s biggest nights of the year.
This year’s event will be the 199th in our history, and is taking place on Saturday the 5th of September, from 6 until 10:30pm.
