As one of our dedicated drivers, you’ll play a vital role in helping children and young people access exciting experiences, build confidence, and enjoy greater independence. Purpose of the Role To make a real difference in the lives of children and young people by driving them to places where they can learn, explore, and have fun. What You’ll Do Carry out simple vehicle safety checks to make sure the minibus is safe and ready for the journey. Keep the vehicle clean, tidy, and welcoming for everyone on board. Complete a quick log after each trip and let the team know if anything needs attention. Lend a helping hand when children and young people are getting on and off the bus — including safely securing wheelchairs.

Driver for Uckfield/Heathfield/Herstmonceux Area – VIEW craft

We are looking for a driver to take members living in the Uckfield and/or Heathfield areas to our 2 hour craft sessions in Herstmonceux on a Tuesday morning and taking them home again afterwards. You would need to certify that you will keep your car in a road worthy condition and that your insurance premium covers voluntary driving. It may be necessary to transport members' walking aids in your car and also, in some circumstances, you might be asked to convey a guide dog as well as its owner. A DBS check is required for this position. Milage expenses at 45p a mile can be claimed from door to door. There is no age limit but you have to be considered fit to drive as per the DVLA guidelines. Our craft sessions take place 33 weeks out of 52 (we try to keep in line with school holidays) on a Tuesday morning at Herstmonceux Village Hall. The members need to be at the hall for a 10am start and the sessions finish at noon.

Volunteer Relief Driver – VIEW Craft

VIEW Craft are looking for a relief driver to cover any absences of their regular drivers. Their craft sessions run on a Tuesday morning from 10am until 12pm during school term time. These take place at Herstmonceux Village Hall. Any members requiring a lift will need to be collected from their homes and taken to the village hall, drivers are then welcome to stay for the 2 hours if they wish, or come back for the end of the session for the return journey. Those who choose to wait at the hall, tea and coffee is provided, and if you'd like you're welcome to help with the session as a volunteer, as multiple roles are available. Members can live anywhere within the Wealden area. Drivers will undergo a DBS check, and are asked to check that their car insurance covers voluntary driving. They need to ensure that their car is kept in good working order. In some cases a member may need to transport a walking aid or guide dog with them.

Volunteer Box Collector – Crowborough Foodbank

We are seeking drivers to collect empty boxes from Lidl supermarket in Crowborough and deliver them to the Foodbank warehouse at Barnsgate Manor in Heron's Ghyll (just outside of Crowborough). These boxes are vital for our deliveries of emergency food supplies to the community. It would suit someone with an hour to spare each week and who has a car. Your vehicle will require insurance that covers voluntary work, however most insurers will provide this free of charge. We ask for no more than a hour per week. You would be allocated a morning, or afternoon, slot depending on your availability.

Volunteer Saturday Delivery Driver Pair – Crowborough Foodbank

Join our friendly team of Saturday morning delivery drivers. We deliver grocery parcels to clients, in Crowborough and the surrounding areas. We're currently recruiting pairs to assist us with this important service. Deliveries are collected from the Foodbank warehouse, situated in-between Crowborough and Uckfield. The deliveries are packaged in boxes and bags. You will need the ability to carry these to properties. This may also involve steps and stairs. This is a flexible role, you both volunteer when you can. You will need a car, with insurance that covers volunteer work (most insurers will provide this free of charge). You're welcome to meet with us and find out more about this opportunity and what we do, before volunteering. This will be taking place on Saturdays between 9am - 10.30am. The length of the morning may vary slightly, depending on how many deliveries and volunteers there are. Unfortunately we are unable to recruit lone volunteers for this role, however it is perfect if you're a couple looking to help out in your spare time, family or even just two friends.

Volunteer Driver – Association of Carers

Volunteer Drivers assist by transporting both volunteers who can't drive or don't have access to a vehicle to the carer's home and back again, and carer's to appointments or a day activity. Any applicants will require their own vehicle and a full clean driver's licence. Having a good knowledge of local roads and routes, and being a good communicator will also benefit anyone in this role. Volunteers decide the area they can help out in, as well as the hours they are available for. A DBS check is required, which the Association of Carers will apply for on your behalf. Only those aged 18 or over are suitable. Mileage and expenses are paid for. Full training will be given.

Sunday Morning Driver Volunteer – Holy Cross Church

The church are looking for a volunteer driver in the New Year to help out with getting a few of their congregation to services on a Sunday. This would involve both bringing passengers and delivering them home. Services are typically at 9:30am, but the second Sunday of the month is at 10:00am. If there are multiple applicants a rota can be set up. This role will only take a small amount of your time once each week, but will make a big difference in allowing those in need of the service to practice their faith still. Due to the older parishioners in need of the service potentially being classed as vulnerable adults, a DBS check may be required. Mileage will be paid for.

Driver Escort and Driver Volunteers – St Peter and St James Hospice

The Hospice are looking for Drivers and Driver Escorts to transport attendees between their homes and the Living Well Centre. Part of the role will include greeting attendees, and liaising with the Living Well Centre Lead. Applicants will be required to undertake training as all volunteers with the hospice do, and provide the necessary documentation for driving. If using own vehicle, travel expenses will be covered. An Enhanced DBS will be required.

Volunteer Driver for Surgery Car Service – Manor Park and Hempstead Fields Residents’ Association

They are seeking volunteer drivers to take local residents to medical appointments at Bird in Eye, Buxted, the Meads surgery, or Uckfield hospital. These are short round trips, for which petrol expenses will be covered at £4 per round trip (45p per mile on average). Drivers must provide their own car, but will be given an ID badge and sign for their dashboard. You must have a clean driver's licence for this opportunity. Trips will take place on weekdays only, between the hours of 9am and 4.30pm. Good communication skills are desired but not essential. Drivers must be patient with passengers. This is an opportunity where you'll be making a big difference for people in the local community, and using only a little of your time to do so.

Bus Driver – East Sussex Hearing

East Sussex Hearing are seeking someone to drive their outreach vehicle. This is an important role in spreading awareness of what the charity does and fundraising throughout the communities in East Sussex. The bus is roughly the same size as an NHS ambulance, and you will require a full clean C1 driving licence, as well as 2 years experience. Due to insurance reasons, please only persons over the age of 30 apply. Additionally, you'll be asked to perform health and safety checks on the vehicle as required, keeping it clean and tidy, assisting members of the public with accessing the services provided, and helping other volunteers to deliver advice. This role will suit someone who is friendly and engaging, who enjoys meeting new people and taking on a variety of tasks as part of a team. They are looking for a commitment of between 6 and 30 hours a month.
