Lewes Stock Preparation Volunteers – Age UK

Our shops are a hive of activity and the heart of the local community. They raise funds to support our vital work and provide a place to find out more about how we help older people in the local area. Our Stock Preparation Volunteers always enjoy being part of our shop teams; making new friends and helping the charity to maximise the income from the amazing items people donate to us. In this role you will usually be working in our donation sorting area, which is off the shop floor. Here you will help the team process, prepare and price the items people donate. We receive hundreds of bags of clothing, bric-a-brac, toys, games and all sorts of items every week. You will help us to turn these into vital funds to support our work. After full training you will be part of our processing team; sorting through the donated items, identifying those which we should sell, preparing them and pricing before they are put onto the shop floor. You may have a particular area of experience, such as clothing, books or antiques. Your skills and knowledge will help us to gain the best value for each item and some of our volunteers even coordinate entire sections, such as a book rooms within our stores. When people come in to donate their items you will be helping to thank them for their support. Many items are Gift Aided so when processing the items you will ensure that Gift Aid labels are attached so that we can gain this additional vital income. You will help to make our products look amazing; steaming clothes (if this is your area) and helping to clean and make every item look great and ready for sale.

House Manager For Museums – Bluebell Railway Museum

We wish to recruit a person or persons who will be the volunteer House Manager(s) for the two attractions. This involves dealing with the repairs, maintenance of the exhibition areas and helping to keep them clean, tidy and safe. One of the exhibition areas is in the north end of the locomotive running shed and has a number of steam locomotives on display which are cared for by others as well as interactive displays and the other is a purpose-built museum which was first opened 14 years ago. Ideally, we would have a number of people fulfilling the role who would operate to a roster. They would be a need to visit the museums on their rostered days and deal with any issues that might have occurred. Tools and some materials are on site. The person would liaise with the stewards who are on duty in the museum and the Curator who they report to. Volunteers may elect to work as many or as few listed duties as they wish, and timing is flexible. If you think you might like to volunteer the Curator will call you to discuss fully the role more fully. There is no upper age limit for this role, and under 18's will be considered dependent on skills. Due to the museums' remote location it is advised that you have your own transportation.

Volunteer Website Designer – Green Transition Crowborough

We are recruiting for a volunteer to take charge of our website, which was developed fairly early on in our lifetime, but now needs a revamp in line with how our organisation has evolved and developed. The start point would be having a discussion with each of our relevant parts to determine their own system requirements. The next action would be to assess whether our existing Wordpress site is sufficient for the job, and then it would mean either converting to another platform, or enhancing our existing one. There are no fixed or rigid timescales associated with this project. We anticipate that most of the investigation, analysis, design and implementation can be delivered remotely, however we would be eager to meet up, to ensure that we have the opportunity to really be clear about who we are and what we want to project. Should this require travel, we would be happy to cover mileage expenses.
