Treasurer – Ashdown Scouts

We are looking for a Treasurer to maintain the accounts for the District. This is a role which means you will responsible for all aspects of financial transactions, making sure to keep a proper record and all accounts up to date, as well as keeping the trustees informed. As a Treasurer you will also become a part of the board of trustees. This position will only require around 1-2 hours per week of your time as and when needed, and be performed remotely, so you can set your own hours to suit. There may be periods in the year where how much time is needed fluctuates such as towards the end of the fiscal year. A DBS check will be required, however Ashdown Scouts will organise this. This role is ideal for a retired accountant or bookkeeper looking to utilise their skills to benefit the community, or someone with relevant qualifications looking to gain some experience.

Volunteer Adviser – Wealden Citizens Advice

Our team of more than 60 volunteers and 16 paid staff across our 3 offices in Crowborough, Hailsham and Uckfield assisted more than 3,300 clients in 2023/24 with over 17,600 issues. Our volunteers explore the client's issue with them, research the topic and provide them with information to move forward. We are very much in need of additional volunteer advisers. We ask volunteers to come 1 day a week between the hours of 9am - 3pm, no previous experience is necessary and full training is given. This is a rewarding role where advisers will answer the phone, use a computer to research the client’s issue and help them resolve their problems. Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Time for Tea & Friends Group Volunteer – Ridgewood Village Hall

Due to growing numbers, our Time for Tea & Friends group is looking for volunteers to assist in running sessions. It's a relaxed and fun time, with volunteers helping out by serving sandwiches and cakes to guests whilst having a chat. The group meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month, from 11.30am to 2.45pm, and if interested there are other sessions available. Legacy Manager – Bluebell Railway

We are looking for a volunteer to help the Trust team with wills and legacies, which includes liaising with executors and their solicitors, and monitoring and reporting on the progress of the administration of estates. We also assist individuals who are thinking of leaving gifts in their wills to the Bluebell. The role would perhaps suit a retired solicitor, accountant or professional executor, or someone with a reasonable working knowledge of the law and practice of wills and estate administration. A sympathetic and helpful approach to donors and the ability to work closely with colleagues would be beneficial. You do not need to be a legacy professional. The Trust team works on site at Sheffield Park Station on Wednesdays or Thursdays, although much of their work is done remotely from home. The Trust, like the Bluebell as a whole, supports equal opportunities. The Bluebell Railway Trust, the charity that supports the Railway, is best known for managing our main fundraising appeals, donations and Gift Aid. It also receives gifts that very generous supporters leave us in their wills, known as legacies. Without such gifts the Railway would not be able to carry out much of the restoration work that is essential for its ongoing operation. Tool Sharpener – The Repair Cafe Uckfield

Are you a practical person, good at sharpening a range of metal tools, from garden shears to chef's knives? Would you be happy doing this once a month for local folk as part of our repair team? Uckfield Repair Café are seeking such a person to join our group of nearly thirty repairers, specifically to help sharpen tools that are brought in by our customers to our monthly drop in sessions. This is the perfect opportunity for someone wanting to do something practical to help local people repair and improve their items, and join in with the amazing work that goes on at the repair café. There is no age limit but applicants will need to be experienced in doing this job safely. We have a few hand tool such as files and sharpening stones, but we also encourage our repairers to bring their own equipment that they are familiar with. All volunteers give their time freely, but any pre-agreed legitimate out of pocket expenses for tools and materials involved in the task will be met out of voluntary donations from our customers. The sessions are on the 4th Saturday of each month (except for December). We set up from 9am for the public attend between 9.30 and 12.30, and we clear up by 1pm.

This position is best suited to someone who is well-organised, a good communicator, and able to manage administrative tasks with care and accuracy. This is a permanent volunteer role, suitable for someone looking to get involved in the local community. Main Responsibilities: Meeting Administration: Schedule committee meetings and the Annual General Meeting (AGM), ensuring all members are informed in good time. Prepare and circulate meeting agendas in advance. Accurately take and distribute minutes of meetings. Maintain records of attendance and key decisions for transparency and continuity. Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for all general enquiries and official correspondence. Direct queries to relevant committee members where appropriate. Liaise with fellow bonfire societies, local councils, community groups, and charities to support collaborative efforts and compliance. Send out regular updates to members and volunteers regarding events, meetings, and Society news – either electronically or by post/hand, depending on the recipient. Record Keeping: Maintain up-to-date records of members, contacts, and key stakeholders. Keep Society documentation organised and accessible, including policies, licences, and historical records. Support with compiling documentation for insurance, safety plans, and event risk assessments. Event Support: Assist in coordinating the permits, permissions, and required paperwork for events, especially the annual Bonfire Night celebration. Ensure all necessary forms and submissions are completed accurately and submitted on time to relevant authorities.

Volunteer Stock Sorter – Kit Wilson Trust

What is a Volunteer Stock Sorter? Volunteer stock sorters play a vital role in supporting our charity's goals by helping manage incoming donations at our donation hub in Ridgewood, Uckfield. As a stock sorter, you will be sorting, organising, categorising and preparing donations ready for our charity shops to sell and raise money for The Kit Wilson Trust. What's involved? Sorting Donations: Inspecting and sorting incoming donations, including clothing, household items, toys, books, and other goods. Categorising Items: Organise donations by department, quality, and condition, ensuring items are sorted according to established guidelines. Quality Control: Assess the condition of donations, selecting items suitable for sale and setting aside any that are damaged or unsuitable. Preparation for Sale: Prepare items for display in our shops, including hanging, steaming, labelling and cleaning. Maintaining Work Areas: Keep the sorting areas clean, organised, and safe, following all health and safety guidelines. Collaboration: Work closely with other volunteers and staff to ensure smooth operations and effective communication.
