Do you have 3-4 hours a week to make a real difference? We’re looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to support older people to reconnect with their community and reduce loneliness.
Currently within East Sussex there is an increasing need for driving services to get elderly persons to vital hospital appointments. Some individuals of an advanced age can find their independence limited, and having a service available to ensure they can attend appointments is a huge boost.
Would you like to help local people get to their medical appointments (Doctors, Dentist, Opticians, Hospital etc) if they are unable to take public transport or drive themselves?Volunteering in this way is really flexible. You can choose dates, times and locations that suit you and fit around your other commitments. If you can only do weekends or a particular day during the week, that’s ok. Travel expenses are reimbursed.
As a volunteer you choose the dates that you can be available to drive. Currently we have a Lunch Club on the first Tuesday of the month, where you have your lunch provided; Friday Films (once per month) where you can stay to watch the film and have interval refreshments; and monthly trips usually taking place on a Thursday, departing from Mayfield between 9-10am and returning around 4pm.
We are looking for volunteers to help with fundraising and social activities, by attending events and engaging with the public about the work we do. Fundraising at events we attend can be in many forms; running a classic tombola, or a raffle for example, but we are open to ideas from volunteers about other methods to generate funds, especially those which engage the public and inspire them to learn about civil aviation history.
The responsibilities of our office volunteers vary, as we take on tasks best suited to each of us; processing volunteer applications, creating displays or placing opportunities on our website, though we all chip in with greeting any visitors and assisting them with whatever requests or queries they have. There are many different roles at the Centre so let us know what you are comfortable doing or what you would like to learn as this can provide a way of gaining experience.
As part of our friendly team, you will attend local groups and community activities, offering information, guidance, and signposting to relevant services, support organisations, and community groups. You may also help people complete a range of forms, including Attendance Allowance applications and other benefit-related paperwork, giving them the confidence and support they need to access available help.
Chailey Heritage Foundation has a rich history dating back to 1903. The Volunteer Calligrapher will help preserve and enhance this heritage by maintaining important commemorative records through high-quality handwritten entries. Create handwritten entries in the Chailey Heritage Foundation Royal Visitors’ Book Produce calligraphic entries for the Foundation's Roll of Remembrance. We are seeking a volunteer bus driver to support our charity by driving our minibus to collect children from a local SEND specialist school during term time. The role operates Monday to Thursday (flexible days) from approximately 2:30pm to 4:00pm. This is an ongoing/permanent volunteer position rather than an ad hoc role, although flexibility can be discussed.
This role involves volunteering on Saturdays at Bridge Cottage Heritage Centre during our open days, welcoming visitors and invigilating the exhibition spaces to help ensure the collections are cared for and visitors have an enjoyable experience. Full training will be provided, so no previous museum experience is necessary. We're simply looking for someone who is reliable, friendly, and has a genuine passion for history and local heritage.
