The Office of the Sussex PCC manages up to 45 dedicated volunteers who undertake vital duties for its Independent Custody Visiting (ICV) scheme. Representatives from the community are recruited and appointed on a geographical basis to visit the five police custody centres including Eastbourne and Hastings.
As a volunteer driver, this role involves collecting clients from their home, taking them to their appointments, waiting and bringing them home again. On occasions you may be asked to escort the client to their appointment. You must have a full clean driving license, and access to your own car for this role.

You will only require a full clean drivers licence, and access to your own vehicle for this role. Mileage is paid at 45p per mile and you will just need to inform your insurance company that you are driving on a voluntary basis and that there are no hire charges.

Befriending and Respite volunteers are there to meet with someone in need of care, giving the carer a few hours for themselves. The role is socialising, offering them an ear, maybe playing a game. The Association tries to match volunteers with those who hold similar interests.
